LINDA (LYNDY) MACE ~

I accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior on June 16, 1957.  Looking back, I can truly say that God was watching over me and guiding me during a very difficult time in my life.  I was blessed with Sunday School Teachers and GA Teachers that influenced me with their Christian leadership.  I met my future husband, Robert Mace in my senior year at Milby High School in Houston.    We married November 18. 1967 just one month before he was to leave for Viet Nam.  We have been married now for 53 years and we were blessed with two adopted children and one biological child.  They are grown and married now, and have blessed us with the next generation of Maces.  We are very proud grandparents of four granddaughters and three grandsons, two cats, and three grand dogs.  I can tell you that back in 1977 I thought we would never experience the joy of children or grandchildren but God answered our prayers and poured out His blessings on our family.

Our family moved to Lockhart, Texas in 1990 and joined First Lockhart Baptist our first Sunday in Lockhart.  We love singing with our church choir and have been blessed by serving in many other areas that include both Children’s Ministry and Adult Ministry over the years.

In the spring of 2012 our church invited Debbie Daniel and the Steel Magnolias to present their concert – Grand Ole Gospel Sing.  This included several groups, and a couple of soloists who participated in the program.  The Southern Gospel Music stirred my heart and I sang right along on the songs I knew.  The congregation even clapped hands and tapped their toes!  There was a special excitement as we worshipped our Lord through those songs!  When The Steel Magnolias stepped on stage, I was quickly amazed at the energy these ladies exhibited with each song.  Their smiles were contagious and it was energizing to see how that joy spread throughout the congregation!  God’s message to me was – we need to get excited about sharing God’s message!

Robert and I were blessed with an opportunity to travel with these wonderful ladies on two separate mission trips.  The first was in 2013 to Louisville, Kentucky and the second in 2014 to Arizona.  Throughout this time, I prayed for God to help me see clearly how I could serve Him more fully.  I have to laugh at myself sometimes, because God kept pointing me in the direction of The Steel Magnolias.  My self doubt kept saying, “You can’t do that!  You are not a public speaker and you certainly won’t be able to remember the choreography and sing the words to those songs at the same time.  After our return from Arizona and with the encouragement from my husband, I took that step of faith to join The Steel Magnolias and became a member in November 2014.   That step of faith opened the door to many opportunities to witness to people I would never have met otherwise.  There are blessings beyond measure when we submit to God’s calling, but we have to say Yes Lord, send me and then actually step out in faith.

I look forward now to continue serving our Lord through the Simply Blessed Ministry.
